Partner/Social Dancing

Current Schedule:

The social/partner classes are taught by Nancy Murphy.

The studio is located at 20 Merrimac Square, Merrimac, Massachusetts, in the center of town, on Route 110/Main Street, on the third floor (the entrance is to the left of the Merrimac House of Pizza). From I-495, take exit 53 (Broad Street). From I-495 South, take a right at the end of the exit; left if from I-495 North. At the end of the street (at the fire station), take a left and head into the square. The studio will be on the left. Please park behind the building; the parking in front is for short term parking.

6:00-7:00 pm - Beginner Swing
7:00-8:00 pm - Intermediate/Advanced Latin
8:00-9:00 pm - Beginner Ballroom

Tuition

All courses meet for 6 1-hour classes. There is a minimum requirement of five people for a class to run.

Tuition: $65/person, to be paid either prior to or at the first class (check payable to Nancy Murphy or cash).

Group discount:

Bring your friends! Get $5 off per person for each additional couple enrolled (up to 5 couples).

1 couple, $65/person (normal price)
2 couples, $60/person
3 couples, $55/person
4 couples, $50/person
5 couples or more, $45/person

Note: to receive the discount, students must register for the same course. All payments must be received at the same time.

"Drop in" single classes may be taken for $13/person. No discounts apply to this rate. Please note; classes do progress based on material presented in prior classes. So, usually it's ok for a beginner to drop in on the first or second class, but might be difficult to jump in after that. It really depends on your prior dance experience. If you're not sure & want to drop in on a class, talk to Nancy.

Course Descriptions

Youth & Teen Ballroom
You've seen it on So You Think You Can Dance - now your child can learn partnered dancing! Back in style and fun for all. This class will teach basic rhythm, technique & partnering for several popular ballroom and latin dances, such as Waltz, Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha & Quickstep.
*Tuition: Autopay - $49/month, non-Autopay $54/month

Stretch & Strengthen (Teen/Adult)
Do you want a workout that offers total body conditioning and leaves you energized rather than exhausted? This course provides a vigorous program of stretching and strengthening with ballet, yoga, and pilates exercises, to help you tone and firm your entire body. Please wear appropriate workout clothing and footwear, and bring a mat or towel and a set (2) of two or three pound hand weights to class.
**Tuition: Drop in $13/class (please email or call before your first class to make sure the class is running) Class card: $40/four classes in a six-week period

Ballroom (Waltz & Foxtrot)
Beginner: This class will present basic rhythm, partnering skills and fundamental dance figures for Waltz & Foxtrot. A great class to take if you've never danced before!
Intermediate/Advanced: This class will work on refining technique, and expanding the dancers' repertoire. Prior ballroom experience required.

Intermediate/Advanced Latin (Cha Cha & Rumba):
This class will work on refining technique, and expanding the dancers' repertoire in Cha Cha and Rumba. Prior experience required.

Beginner/Intermediate Swing - This class will present basic rhythm (both single and triple step), partnering skills and fundamental dance figures for this upbeat dance.

Quickstep - This class will continue to develop fundamental rhythm, partnering skills and fundamental dance figures for this fast paced dance.

Wedding Dance Bootcamp - Spring & summer are a popular time for weddings. Be it your own, your child's or a friend's, many will be attending a wedding in the near future. This class will teach fundamental partnered dance skills for the most popular dance rhythms, so you will feel comfortable getting up to dance. We'll learn some basic Slow Dancing, Foxtrot and Swing in this 6-week course. Students are encouraged to bring in their song.

Swing Improvisation - This class will explore footwork variations, syncopations, techniques for choreographic improvisation and styling in East Coast Swing/Lindy. This class is intermediate/advanced in level, and assumes the dancer has a solid working knowledge of Swing. If you're looking to kick your Swing dancing up a notch - this is the class for you!
